For tonights class it is time to put some of what we have talked about into practice. A set has been constructed which has artificial light and a series of objects for you to photograph. These objects are set an equal distance apart and provide plenty of detail for you to photograph and review.
Here are the steps I'd like you to go through on the set which has been assembled.
Determine the correct exposure for the set. You can pick the ISO. I suggest 400
Perform a white balance using your camera.
Make sure that the subjects have a
good look on your computer.
Select a focus method on your camera
which will allow you to select the object to have in focus.
Here is where it gets tricky.
Your assignment is to take a
photograph of the center object and have as narrow a depth of field
as possible. Depending upon what your normal lens is you should zoom
in close and then zoom out and take the same framed
photograph.
Study the difference. As part of the exercise you will want also want to look at how the wide angle and telephoto choices affected the look of the images.
