Outdoor Photography Class Information

It is hard to believe that the classes are about to start. Since this is my first time to teach these classes I am sure that the schedule and outline below will change as the class unfolds. One aspect to this class that I am still uncertain about is the need to work in different locations. In picking locations I have tried to address topics such as accessibility and the ability to find an easy assembly point.

It is strongly recommended that you join our mailing list. These schedules and locations will change based upon weather and how much we accomplish at each location. I will also be open to class suggestions on changes.

Art's business line number is 755-2787. Be sure to have it should you be running late or get lost.

If any students have a child who is a camera hog please feel free to bring them along. Subjects are always handy to have.

June 7 Orchard Recreation

We will start with an overall discussion about outdoor photography. Students will be asked to discuss what kinds of problems they have, what subjects do they like to photograph, and some technical discussion of how your cameras work.

I will also show some of the ways you can control the light.

June 14th Sedgwick County Park

There is a bridge at Sedgwick Cnty Park. I get to it by entering on the 13th street side and then taking the fork to the left. Here is a correction to the address. I "beleive" that if you are coming from 13th and West the street is 13th street. If you are turning off Zoo Blvd it is Windmill Road.

About the time you get to the gift shop you will see a covered bridge to your left. (West side of the road.) We will look at how to place backgrounds, working around the water, and generally explore some of the approaches to working with the bridge. There is also some running water in that area where we will look at photographing moving water.

Once we are done in that are we will go East and look at the water from the other side of the road. If possible, we will go across the floating bridge and look at photography options

June 21 Sedgwick County Park

On our second visit we will meet at the first parking area from the 21st street exit. There are typically geese in that area and we will have the option of photographing into the sun across the water. Let's hope for sunshine for that one.

June 28th Keeper of the Plains

Note the late start time.

There are a lot of cool photo opportunities around the Keeper. For this night I'd like to plan on starting later. This is also the night for night photography so we will need to plan on starting around 7:30. Here is how to get to the parking lot. From McLean and Seneca take the bridge across the river. The Indian Center will be on your right. Keep going past the Indian Center and cross the bridge. The first driveway on your right will be the parking lot.

July 5th No class. Holiday for many people.
July 12th Riverside Park

This location will be a little tougher to find, but not hard. If you know where the The Castle INN at Riverside is all you have to do is go across the river and turn left. We will be working around the stone arch. If you have no idea where I am talking about do a Map Quest on 1155 N. River Blvd.
Wichita, KS and then go across the river and turn left.

At this location we will find a Pond, trees,

July 19th Orchard Park Rec Center

Let's look at everyones pictures and talk about what is learned. Bring your questions and any images you would like to have edited.
